Introduction to Garden History Talk & Walk
Join us for a fascinating Sunday Introduction to Garden History Talk & Walk with expert garden Historian Deborah Trentham.
Deborah will start with a presentation about the Garden’s history and will continue with an exploration of highlighted areas. You will also learn about the history of Horticulture and how it is connected to London’s oldest botanic Garden. A Q&A will follow with participants.

• Tickets are £35 per person
• (Concessions: £28 per person for Students, Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Refugee Status, and Asylum Seekers)
• No discounts for Friends of the Garden.
This event will take place outdoors and in our first floor ‘Gallery’ space. Unfortunately, the Gallery space is not wheelchair accessible. The Gallery can be accessed via a narrow 22-step staircase with a handrail. Please dress appropriately for the weather.

The Speaker
Deborah Trentham
Trained in the history of art, architecture and garden history, Deborah Trentham has been teaching garden history for fifteen years. Formerly a teacher of garden history at Birkbeck (University of London) and Capel Manor College where she also taught the history of architecture, Deborah currently teaches garden design students for KLC School of Design at Chelsea Harbour and Hampton Court Palace, along with lecturing at Imperial College London.
Deborah was the Historic Gardens judge for the Society of Garden Designers Awards for five years and has published numerous articles in magazines and periodicals. Her book ‘Botanic Gardens of the World: Tales of extraordinary plants, botanical history and scientific discovery’ is due to be published in September 2023.
This event is part of our Chelsea Physic Garden’s 350 anniversary year.
