Summer Tree Identification Day Course
Learn to identify trees in leaf at Chelsea Physic Garden, looking at both native and non-native trees with common and unusual specimens as learning aids.
The course will start in the classroom, looking at the principles of tree identification; leaf and tree anatomy; useful tips and tricks for tree identification, followed by a guided walk at the Garden, to put the theory into practice.
The course is aimed at a beginner to intermediate level of knowledge to introduce newcomers to tree identification and refresh the more experienced with key principles and concepts. We will be using specific trees as learning aids, as well as building a systematic identification method to help with the identification of a wider range of trees.
Lunch at the Physic Garden Café is included to the ticket price.

Tickets are £100 per person.

- This event will take place at the Garden and in our first floor Gallery space, which unfortunately is not wheelchair accessible.

Teacher’s Bio:
Greg Packman
Greg Packman is a multi-award winning arboriculturist working in London, specialising in tree management in urban parks. Greg has worked in locations such as Hyde Park, St James’s Park, City of London, Epping Forest, Inner Temple Gardens and Brompton Cemetery amongst other locations. Greg’s work focuses on tree health, tree risk management, landscape management and ecological management.
Greg also runs a tree walk and education programme in a range of locations, aimed at connecting people and helping them learn more about trees. Covering a range of guided walks, short courses and presentations, Greg’s other topics include winter and summer tree identification; ancient trees; folklore and mythology of trees; trees & ecology; urban tree management; tree pests and diseases and more.
