Year of Well-being
At Chelsea Physic Garden our mission is to demonstrate the medicinal, economic, cultural and environmental importance of plants to the survival and well-being of humankind. This is why we are delighted to declare 2021 our Year of Well-being.
Well-being isn’t a “buzz-word”, it’s integral to the flourishing of all people, and that’s why we are placing it at the centre of our activity this year. This work draws on research from the New Economics Foundation and their report “Five Ways to Well-being”, which lays out evidence-based approaches to improving people’s well-being by encouraging people to:
Take notice
From January to February our theme is ‘Take notice’ where we encourage our community to be mindful of the emerging life and beauty that comes with spring. A Spring Flower Photography Competition, online workshops and a snowdrop trail are just some of the ways we invite people to be aware of the world around them and reflect on their place in it.
Connect
Through the months of March to May our theme is ‘Connect’ and want to support people to make links with each other and nature. Celebrating International Women’s Day, Mother’s Day and Easter at the Garden, we will welcome people to our safe outdoor space to meet with their community.
Be active
In the summer months of June to August, we want people to be ’Be active’. The Garden is always a wonderful place for a walk, but we’ll also be turning our hands to yoga, meditation, live music and outdoor dining so that everyone can find a way to get outside.
Keep learning
As we turn to the autumnal months of September and October, it is the perfect time to ‘Keep learning’. Learning new things or rediscovering old passions is a great way to improve confidence, so we’ll be providing lots of opportunities to do just this with courses such as Tree Identification and Garden tours led by our Horticultural team.
Give
To celebrate the end of the year, Chelsea Physic Garden’s annual Christmas Market will be returning for 2021, and we will be encouraging you to participate in our theme of ‘Give’. The Chelsea Physic Christmas Market is the perfect opportunity to pick up a gift for that special someone and to raise vital funds for the Garden
