Talk: Chasing Plants: journeys with a botanist through rainforests, swamps and mountains with Dr Chris Thorogood
We’re very excited to welcome Dr Chris Thorogood, a BBC Radio 4 Gardeners’ Question Time regular, international bestselling author, botanical illustrator, and artist, for a talk on carnivorous plants, plant diversity, and his latest book ‘Chasing Plants: Journeys with a Botanist Through Rainforests, Swamps and Mountains’, published in 2022 by Kew.
Dr Chris specialises in the evolution of parasitic and carnivorous plants, and plant diversity in floristic hotspots including the Mediterranean Basin, Macaronesia, Southeast Asia, and Japan.
A Q&A will follow with the audience and book copies of Chasing Plants: Journeys with a Botanist Through Rainforests, Swamps and Mountains will be available for sale and signing.
This talk is part of our Chelsea Physic Garden’s 350 anniversary year and part of the Heralding Spring events.

Dr Chris Thorogood
Dr Chris Thorogood is Deputy Director and Head of Science of the University of Oxford Botanic Garden and Arboretum. His research focuses on the evolution, conservation, and biomimetic applications of plants. He is a wildlife artist, botanical illustrator, and an international best-selling author of specialist field guides and popular books.
