Art in the Garden: Embodied Surfaces
Join us on a special Saturday opening of Chelsea Physic Garden for an afternoon experiencing the wonders of botanical art in London’s oldest botanical garden.
Chelsea Physic Garden has a rich history rooted in the healing properties of plants. With over 4,000 plant species, it remains a vital green space for biodiversity and human connection to nature. Within these ancient walls, you are invited to immerse yourself in a variety of botanical art forms from still life drawing and painting.
Embodied Surfaces
The highlight will be Embodied Surfaces, a unique cross-disciplinary project exploring the connection between body art and nature. Celebrated botanical tattoo artist, Daniel the Gardener will create a custom tattoo inspired by the Garden’s medicinal plants. Daniel will be tattooing live, outside in the Garden, enabling visitors to observe the design process in real time.
Embodied Surfaces investigates how individuals honour their connection to nature through botanical tattoos. By permanently adorning their bodies with plant imagery, participants weave themselves back into nature, showcasing their unique bond through these living artworks.
The event also includes:
- Art Stations: Engage in leaf printing, still life drawing, and painting with either provided materials or bring your own.
- Guided Tours & Walks: Explore the Garden’s diverse plant life, Victorian glasshouses, and join a guided walk.
- Pond-Dipping: Discover the hidden life in our pond, from newts to frogs.
