Cancelled: Growing Mushrooms on Books Demo
Growing mushrooms on books: A simple project to get you growing at home!
Join Caley Brothers team for a 60-minute demonstration to learn the basics of the mushroom growing process and watch a demo on how to set up your own growing project. At the end you will take home your own fresh spawn and instructions so that you too can grow mushrooms on your own book.
Grey Oyster mushrooms are natures recyclers and can grow on almost anything, including a book. Renowned for being formidable composters, the mycelium of the Oyster mushroom will grow on and through its food source, breaking it down and, turning it back into nutrients for nature to continue to thrive on.
This growing project is a great way to witness the growing process of a mushrooms as it turns a simple reading book into its food source before sprouting a flush of stunning Oyster mushrooms.

Caley Brothers:
Lorraine & Jodie
We are the Caley Brothers and we’re passionate about mushroom growing. At the heart of our business is our farm located in Sussex where we grow a varied and seasonal range of fresh gourmet mushrooms. We have a green and sustainable approach to all areas of our business, striving to use only locally sourced materials, and recycling as we go.
As interest for mushrooms and mushroom growing continues, we have been privileged to work on an array of exciting projects bringing the topic of mushroom growing into the public realm. More recently we won Gold for our debut display at the RHS Chelsea Flower show. Where we showcased an array of edible mushrooms.
Alongside our farm we have developed both indoor and outdoor growing kits and creative projects. Inspired by customer curiosity and the desire to share our growing journey. They continue to be a popular hit for first time growers, and anyone with an interest in mushrooms.
