Hex in the Garden: Healers, Harmers and the Witch Craze

Monday 28 October 2024, 6pm-8pm
£25

Enter the walls of Chelsea Physic Garden, London’s oldest botanic garden and a place steeped in 350 years of history. Established in an era when accusations of witchcraft ran rampant, this ancient garden by the River Thames sets the perfect stage for a haunting night of storytelling and discovery.

As the nights drawn in and autumn truly takes its grip, join Maria from Herstorical Tours as she introduces you to the 17th Century women herbalist and cunning folk who were persecuted during the Witch Craze. You will make your way through the ancient and dark Physic Garden where you will meet two of London’s women who were central to the Craze and hear their stories.

After this, join Maria in our Gallery space, where the Apothecaries studied their plants, with a warm glass of mulled cider, nestle in and listen to an engaging talk on the Witch Craze’s eerie origins, the lives it destroyed and its haunting legacy. The evening will close with a powerful poetic performance.

Expect outdoor live storytelling performance, combined with traditional presentation. Your ticket will also include a complimentary glass of mulled cider or non-alcoholic spiced apple.
