The tree ferns get ready
As part of the Cool Fernery restoration, we have started to decant some of the larger of the 400 plants, having already propagated 30 specimens to protect against plant loss.
Our horticulture team kicked things off with some of our fantastic specimens of tree ferns. The team very carefully removed them from their home, planted in the beds within the glasshouse, and into some lovely spacious pots. This was done in these warmer summer months to give the plants an easier time adjusting to their temporary abode. By decanting these plants early in the project it means that we can focus on making sure that they stay healthy while we restore their permanent home.
Once the Cool Fernery has been fully restored we hope that these fantastic ferns will once again be pride of place – but in the meantime, you can still visit them just outside the door of the fernery itself.
