How hiring helps
When you hire The Chelsea Physic garden your money goes to support the work of caring for the collections of plants and The Garden for future generations.
The Chelsea Physic Garden sets out to: maintain the documented plant collections, provide programmes of educational activities, demonstrate the development of the science and practice of horticulture, and promote the importance of the conservation of plants and the natural environment.
FAQs
You are able to hold a date provisionally with us for 14 days at no extra fee while you explore your options. For confirmation of your date, we will require you to fill out a Booking Form and once we receive that back from you we will issue a contract, term sheet and an invoice for 50% deposit of your venue hire cost.
The final payment is required no later than eight weeks before your chosen date.
Payments can be made via cheque, bank transfer or credit/ debit card (regrettably we cannot accept American Express).
This will depend on your type of hire. We offer exclusive evening and weekend hire options as well as some options while the Garden is open to the public.
You will have a dedicated Duty Manager on-site who will make sure that everyone is safe and secure. If you require any other staff you will need to hire these yourself.
Unfortunately, we do not have parking on-site for guests or contractors. There are six pay and display bays outside the 66 Royal Hospital Road entrance. We encourage the use of public transport wherever is possible.
Due to the regulations of Chelsea Physic Garden’s Premises Licence and the necessity of maintaining goodwill between the Garden and our surrounding areas, we do have some restrictions.
All amplified music must go through our sound limiter – the limiter is set at a specified decibel level, above which the music will cut out.
We highly recommend that you choose your event contractors from our accredited suppliers list. If you would like to have a supplier who is not on our list, additional fees will be applicable depending on the type of supplier.
Please be aware that Chelsea Physic Garden will take 10% commission from all suppliers.
Our accredited suppliers list allows us to provide clients with suppliers who have provided excellent services at events at the Garden previously and we receive no additional fees from these suppliers.
The Garden is licensed to have alcohol at events. Please speak with your caterer in regard to corkage.
Fireworks, sky lanterns, flairs, drones and confetti are not permitted at any private events at Chelsea Physic Garden: this also included rice, petals or biodegradable confetti in the Garden. Bubbles make for a great alternative.
At the moment we are unable to facilitate a legal wedding ceremony within the Garden. You would be welcome to hold a humanist ceremony in the Garden and complete the legal element of the marriage within the Gallery.
Dry-hire means that you are only paying Chelsea Physic Garden for use of our space. Although we are happy to help suggest suppliers we do not source any suppliers for you.
If you exclusive hire the Garden and are inviting over 100 guests, we highly recommend hiring a marquee from one of our accredited contractors.
