Founded in 1673, the Grade-I listed Chelsea Physic Garden offers an oasis of green in the heart of one of the world’s most stylish urban districts.

Escape the indoors and the grey din of the city, and hold your event within our four-acre grounds—a living exhibition of over 4,500 plant specimens, meticulously curated over 350 years.

From the continent’s oldest pond rockery to the tropical plants house in our Victorian Glasshouses; the kaleidoscopic Dicotyledon beds, fragrant Mediterranean herbs, and the intimate paths and peripheries enclosing our two professionally maintained lawns— the Garden provides a stunning location for an event of any size, and has a character and history unique amongst any other venue in Central London.

These are a selected by the Garden each year for their established industry excellence, their ability to deliver effectively in our venue, as well as for sharing our own commitment to sustainability.

Event space

Events at the Physic Garden will typically utilise one or both of our grass lawns to serve as blank-canvas event spaces. The lawns provide a private outdoor green space upon which a marqee can be built, furnished and deocrated to your specifications with the services of of our accredited marquee and production suppliers.

The hire includes use of our indoor private function room, the Garden gallery, and existing café marquee as versatile back-of-house catering spaces.

Chelsea Physic Garden is not just a venue, but an educational charity, with a mission to demonstrate the medicinal, economic and cultural importance of plants to the wellbeing of humankind.

Every event held contributes to that mission, raising funds towards school activities, the restoration of our facilities, our community and public programmes, volunteering and traineeships, and preserving our living collection for future generations.

Built originally as a classroom and laboratory dedicated to plant science, the Garden Gallery is an elegant but understated, well-lit indoor function room with a high vaulted ceiling, and south-facing outlook over the four-acre Chelsea Physic Garden.

The room is a blank canvas space and provides a considerable degree of versatility. It is equipped with in-built AV, Wi-Fi, and furniture for a variety of standing and seated layouts—including cabaret, boardroom, theatre and dining arrangements, from anywhere between 12 and 60 guests.

The Gallery’s original oak dais provides a centrepiece to the room, as well as a storage space and lectern. A mid-height shelf around the perimeter gives plenty of space for photos, decorations, branding, and another displays.

Currently, the room exhibits botanical prints by members of the Chelsea Physic Garden Florilegium Society.

We offer the room for morning, afternoon, full-day and evening hires. During the Garden’s public opening hours, your guests are welcome to wander around our four-acre historic botanic garden.

A wide range of catering options are available through the Garden’s in-house café caterer, Company of Cooks. From tea and coffee, to working lunches, drinks and canapes to premium three-course dinners, all food and drink available is inspired by the Garden’s 350-year old collection of plants and herbs, and crafted sustainably on-site from fresh and local produce.
